Holistic Development of Karahal Block
Karahal block of Sheopur district in Madhya Pradesh is one of the poorest and deprived villages in the entire country, with high incidence of malnutrition. The acute water shortage faced by the village leads to malnutrition amongst children, school drop outs due to health reasons or even migration issues. There is a dire need to empower the population especially women, get children into school, create jobs for youth and improve health and education in general. It is in this background that Johnson & Johnson Limited decided to support the Project Holistic Development of Karahal Block.
As part of the holistic development, a three-pronged approach was undertaken:
- Education and health of the girl child was undertaken through the Project Nanhi Kali, jointly managed by K.C. Mahindra Education Trust and Naandi Foundation respectively.
- Empowering the community through Water Management, irrigation and sanitation by creating rooftop rainwater harvesting structures in several parts of Karahal Block including, a school in Goverda village, with the help of Humana People to People India.
- Construction of low cost toilets was undertaken also with the help of Humana People to People India.
